Vienna and Prague

Vienna, austria

Dates:  December 22 - 26

During the holidays I spent Christmas in Vienna and then took a train to Prague for a quick trip prior to ending up in Berlin for New Years.  This was the first time I had been to Vienna and Prague.  The highlights were Christmas Markets, St. Stephens Cathedral and Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna.

Prague, Czech repuplic

Dates:  December 26 - 30

I spent a couple of days between Christmas and New Years in the Czech Republic.  The quick train trip took a couple of hours.  It was very interesting seeing the countryside between Vienna and Prague and getting a little taste of what rural life is like in Austria and the Czech Republic.  I rented and Airbnb in Prague and Airbnb sent me an Email with different group activities that were going on during my stay.  The history of any country fascinates me, but for some reason I find the Communist Era and it's function of particular interest, so I chose the Political Prisoners Tour.  I lucked out because they had just had a story on the local Czech news about the tour and a large group of Czechs signed up for the day I went so they split us into two group, English Speaking and Czech Speaking.  I was the only English speaker so I got a private tour with Dan Zdarek.  It was both engaging and sad at the same time, but overall it was an amazing experience that most people probably don't partake in.
